Day Two

Day two…

So far school is going as can be expected. Assignments are starting to be due and papers are coming up fast. It doesn't help that I'm a music major with a two jobs. I have nine classes,  three weddings to play and prepare for, a Recital to practice for, I'm the leader and founder of a club here and school, I'm taking violin lessons as well as teaching three violin students, I'm taking piano lessons, and I am preparing for a recital in a couple months with the hardest music I've ever done. So… Poop is hitting the fan.

I did learn good things in EDU 316 but man is there a lot of different things to keep up with. I feel like I may actually learn more if it were a little more simpler in terms of technology. I understand that because of the Teaching Standards and Common Core that we have to involve technology in our classrooms. With music however, I am certain that I will be able to define literacy in music and how we constantly communicate and interpret everyday in a music classroom.

With this class being one of the more important courses I am taking this semester. I want to succeed but with my recital coming up and all of these things I need to get done it will easily be one of the hardest classes I will have this semester. It would be easier if there were not as many websites and apps to keep up with. Also I think more class time would help so I could ask questions and talk with everyone to get their opinions. If only we had more time...

  1. I completely understand the sense of classes starting to feel a bit overwhelming, also i agree that the use of technology in this class will be very beneficial in our future professions. Being able to incorporate literacy into my classroom will be a really big task but I feel that the more we work at it, the easier it will become. I really liked reading your blog!

  2. I know your pain Billy. As you know, I'm right along the same path you are, considering we are playing our recital together. I find myself already getting behind in this class. It scares me, because it seems like this is such a fast-paced, technologically advanced classroom that it's hard for me to keep up. This is a new world for us music majors because music is the way we communicate with our students. Sure we may use technology as far as playing a CD or DVD, or possibly use a music software to help with their learning, but as I said in my last comment, I want to be up and moving with my kids the majority of the time. In your case, conducting and paying attention to errors in the orchestra.

  4. Billy I agree with you 100 %. I also am preparing for a recital in April and I have lots more practicing to do before I am ready.

I am having some of the same problems as you. I plan on meeting with Dr. Clark next week to talk about some of these technology issues. I am going to ask her for a list of things to check on a daily basis in order to not fall behind. I hope to gain some knowledge about technology in our class. I am struggling with it now but hopefully it will get better.

  5. WOW, your life is busy! I don't exactly have 9 classes, but being a new mom, i am constantly trying to find more time as well. The semester will be over before you know it and you will be free again! Just hang in there and learn as much as you can to better yourself as an educator!
