Day Ten

So today we talked about writing strategies in our classroom and using the RAFT. I've never thought about making a RAFT for a music classroom but it would actually help with composition a lot. We also got to go over some scenarios which for some reason I love doing. It helps me think about the future and prepare for different situations. I've had some rough and different school events happen to me. I've had a girl have a seizure beside me on the bus and I was only High schooler on the bus so I had to tell these little kids what to do. I've had fights break out in front of me and I might have started one. It was nothing really, This guy was picking on this girl and shoving her so I might have gave him one in the face. But it was over instantly because he sat down to deal with the blood and I sat down like it never happened. Probably could have handled the situation better but we learn from our mistakes.

I'm pretty excited about the woman coming on the 28th. I like "crowd control" and don't mind running games with little kids. I've asked around to find some friends who could help and actually found a few. Now we just need to make a plan and execute it. This semester has actually gone by slower than the usual Spring semester. But it's almost over and then it's the summer.

  1. I am glad that you were able to connect your future career with the literacy strategy RAFT. Even though you do not usually hear about integrating literacy into a music classroom, I think that it will benefit your students ability to understand a particular sheet of music or analyze a particular composer. Learning how to handle certain emergency situations in the classroom was definitely beneficial this week because you ever know what a student might decide to do, so knowing how to handle situations correctly will aid us in our journey to becoming proficient educators.

  2. Hey Bill,
Yeah, the RAFT thing was cool. I think I am going to use that in my classroom as well. As far as classroom management, I am feeling a lot better about it. The hard thing about it is that emergencies happen sudden and without warning. It is easy to come up with something we would do when we are just talking about it. I hope that when I am actually in the situation, I will do the things I think I will do.

  3. Wow!
I missed a good class then. I really wish I could've heard about all the different scenarios that were laid out. You all will have to tell me what this "RAFT" thing is. I guess I need to be caught up because we are teaching on Tuesday.
